'Meanwhile, a car driven by the father of Tour de France stars Andy and Frank Schleck was searched by French customs during the 18th stage.

Johnny Schleck, a former professional cyclist who raced with Belgian legend Eddy Merckx, was stopped along with another vehicle from the advertising procession which precedes the stage itself.

Several journalists and photographers witnessed the scene, at the 30km mark of the 194.5km stage.

Customs chiefs for the region of Isere confirmed two Luxembourg-registered cars were stopped and searched.

â€œOne of the vehicles was taken out of the public's view for a more thorough search,â€ said a customs official who added that the search would last throughout the afternoon.'

To me, the interesting thing is that they were obviously planning on pulling the car apart, which means they know something is going on. If it was just a random search, the inspection would have taken five minutes.

It's interesting how outstanding performances are now viewed with scepticism and it's almost a case of guilty by suspicion until proven innocent. Id that a bad thing? Well l'm guessing 99% of you think like that?

it is strange...he does work for ASO the tour owners..but why target his car and another car with them (driven by journo's) and not at the border.

no real different then having your home searched by the cops when they suspect you of something , they can't really go out on a whim and search just for the hell out of it ,need a strong suspicion to search

no real different then having your home searched by the cops when they suspect you of something , they can't really go out on a whim and search just for the hell out of it ,need a strong suspicion to search

not in france...bit of a police state like that.There are 2 (or 3?) different police forces.You must by law have ID on you at all times.Plus I think the 2 cars had swiss plates.

According to the Australian today the second car searched was that of a family friend. Nothing was found.
