Bummer I guess I'll miss the last lap too... ah yes Mr Sherwin....danny the boy wrote: Set the recorder to watch it this morning, they have downgraded from the national RR comm. team of Phil, Keenan and McGory to that imbecile Sherwin. Only positive is Robbie McEwen, at least he can give an insight to race tactics if the other 2 manage to let him speak. The cricket managed to run over time and wouldn't you know it I miss the last lap. Brilliant!!!!

Same deal here, but luckily I was at work and got a chance to watch it Kittel didn't have the greatest leadout and pretty much went from the final corner, but without Griepel here, the brutal power of the bloke is too much for anyone pretty much this year. Can't see him being too challenged in the sprints.flashpixx wrote:Bummer I guess I'll miss the last lap too... ah yes Mr Sherwin....danny the boy wrote: Set the recorder to watch it this morning, they have downgraded from the national RR comm. team of Phil, Keenan and McGory to that imbecile Sherwin. Not sure why the peleton left their run so late. Gap escalated to 40+ sec with 3km to go. They were never going to catch the break away.

You could watch it on live streaming (no adverts apparently) as mentioned elsewhere on this forum. I thought there was also some live broadcasting from 1:30pm on Gem, and possibly an earlier highlights package too.biker jk wrote:Channel 9 should NEVER have been given the broadcast rights. Showing the highlights at 11pm is treating cycling fans with disdain.

Also loved the Astana/Lars Boom echelon just prior to the hill. For a while there I thought that was going to be decisive but I think they had too many favourites in there that didn't really want to give it 110% before the climb. All but over for another year. Can Kittel get a stage under his belt today or leave empty handed?

When I say 'watched' I actually recorded the Channel 9 highlights package and watched it the following morning. Not exactly glued to the TV for the duration of the tour, but with a busy job, a toddler and a 9-month pregnant wife it was about as much cycling as I was going to watch over the 6 days. But what I did see, I found exciting and every stage finish had me on the edge of the seat. I'm also slowly learning bits and pieces; I didn't even know what a peleton was before this! Quite eye-opening to see the team strategy and was surprised to see the break-away take the 1st stage - I would have guessed that sort of thing never happened!
So after 6 months of cycling, I guess you have another convert to the sport (strictly as a spectator, I missed the boat entirely on competing myself - which has me a little bummed to be honest).

Looking forward to next year. According to the rumor, it will be SA's last year unless the UCI still make it part of the pro calender.
