Peaks Challenge Gold Coast 2015

Postby Bicycle Qld » Tue Mar 17, 2015 1:33 pm

On Saturday 8 August 2015, you have 12 hours to prove yourself.
Since 2009 we've challenged you to take on one of the world’s toughest one-day cycling challenges at Falls Creek. But you asked for more. So now the Peaks Challenge series begins.

On Saturday 8 August, for the first time on the Gold Coast, you have 12 hours to prove yourself.

235 kilometres of the Gold Coast hinterland lays ahead of you, with over 4000 vertical metres of climbing, as the course covers Mount Tamborine (via Henri Roberts Drive), Beechmont, Springbrook, Natural Bridge and Tomewin climbs.

Team Bicycle Network and Bicycle Queensland will be by your side, and with full en-route support, including food and clothing valet, we’ll take care of everything you need.

But staying ahead of our Lanterne Rouge, and the 12-hour deadline, is all up to you.

And it's less than 10km from the start I was told. Going to be a mess.

A mate of mine is trying to convince me into doing this. $300 smackers is a lot to ride something I could do for free though.

Pretty hard to support anything bicycle network are involved in also, given their stance on safe passing legislation.

They don't support the introduction of safe passing legislation, which makes them against it IMO.

58 sec in the linked video.

But cycling group Bicycle Network said the one-metre law was bound to fail and introducing it would be a waste of time.

"It's been tried in many jurisdictions around the world and in none has it made the slightest difference to driver behaviour or cyclist trauma rates," spokesman Garry Brennan said.

"It doesn't work and there is no value in pursuing it further."

A stupid stance to take, when myself and those that ride with me, have noticed the majority giving us more room! :?

It is allot of money and i have already paid for this year it is going to be a massive challenge for me, the way i see it though is there is full support all day with food clothes valet mechanical support and if you are successful a jersey for all finishers so when you count all that up it is actually pretty reasonable i think.

My loss is your gain!
Peak Challenge GC 2015 Ticket
$250 — Pickup is preferred in Brisbane, QLD
Been working 100 hours a week instead of cycling for 100 hours. Doubt that I will be able to complete the ride. Happy to let go for those who want one.
