Or any wheel from the Ferrari Team in the mountains, most likely Fabio Aru's wheel.RonK wrote:Presumably that would be Michael Clenbuterol's wheels.Joel Bohorquez wrote:Alberto Clenbuterol is looking good to win overall. He now just needs to follow the wheels.

Yep, you'd swear some people were just waiting for him to fail so that they could have a crack. While it's true that Porte hasn't proven his GT bonafides I don't believe that what has happened in the last two weeks definitively rules him out as a leader in the future. He has genuinely had bad luck and this is clearly not Sky's A team when it comes to GT's. Granted he isn't getting any younger so the time to prove himself is running out but he is still worth a punt for a team like OGE. Races like Paris-Nice and Tirreno are not to be dismissed lightly, they have their own prestige, should Richie not ever come up to the mark in GT's. As SSScott alluded to I think that the ITT ride was that of a dispirited rider and not anything to do with a lack of quality in the discipline.windlessdog wrote:Love it get the boots on and kick him while he's down, some bad luck a bit of bad team work then a time trial after he landed heavily on the not so soft black top and he's to soft and no good for a GT nice to see some good Aussie sportsmanship by the forum posters.

2015 Giro d'Italia
Postby RonK » Sun May 24, 2015 4:00 pm
There is a rider who fell on the not so soft black top and dislocated his shoulder, but he didn't give up. Rode the Giro's longest and toughest stages in pain, but he made no excuses and didn't give up.windlessdog wrote:Love it get the boots on and kick him while he's down, some bad luck a bit of bad team work then a time trial after he landed heavily on the not so soft black top and he's to soft and no good for a GT nice to see some good Aussie sportsmanship by the forum posters.
Then he fell on the not so soft black top again, but again he didn't give up. Now he's leading the race. And if his "luck" continues in the same way he can't possibly win. But I'll bet he doesn't give up while he can still get on his bike.

Spanish or Italian, they can't give wheels to their mates on different teams.Chuck wrote:

So, my initial fear that he wasn't yet up to a three-week tour appears to be supported by this outcome - at this time.
One thing I must ask of those who are more knowledgeable than I am; do people think Sky management gave 100% commitment to the Giro, ie, did they send a team that was up to the standard required to give it a proper tilt? I do note the absence of a number of riders who I know will be in the TdF team - so have to ask the question....
cheers

I am with you macca - I can't climb, sprint or time trial. In fact my only real cycling prowess is going downhill fast, as long as the road is straight that ismacca33 wrote:I will never have that problem Bruce - no good all 'round here!
A bit harsh maybe, but Porte has never been in the bridal party - his best result in a grand tour is 7th & white jersey in the Giro in 2010. He has some great wins in shorter stage races, Paris–Nice in 2013 then this year in Paris–Nice, Volta a Catalunya & Giro del Trentino. He just doesn't appear to be able to hold it together for a 3 week tour.thecaptn wrote:Maybe Porte's nickname should be "The Bridesmaid"?

Abandoning is the smart thing to do.
