Australian National Titles

Postby GAV!N » Mon Jan 04, 2016 2:18 pm

I can't believe it's here already.

Who's your tip? It's a bit hard to pick at this time of the year. Not many races on, kind of the off season for most so it's hard to know who's in form and who's not.

Surely Rohan Dennis for the ITT. I'd be surprised if anyone can beat him.

Road Race? Hmmm maybe even Rohan again. He could do some serious damage on that hill. Caleb did very well last year and is form at Bay crits. If he's there at the end he's a real chance, as long as he doesn't make a meal of it like last year.

My outsider: Sean Lake. He's a machine in the one day races, now with Avanti things are really looking up for him. I'd love to see him snag it.

Rubbish like always.

Mens Road Race will be televised on Sunday 1pm to 5pm on GEM.

There's live results here - http://liveresults.cycling.org.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Other than that the usual Instagram, twitter accounts etc.

Great to Sean Lake get on the podium for the TT!

I read a while ago when it was announced that the womens race was to be run on sunday before the mens that nine would cover the race with a delayed finish and then cover the last few hours of the men's. TV guide says that the coverage is 1pm to 5pm EDST on Gem so I'm guessing we'll get a package includinng highlights from the crits and TTs earlier in the week, then the last ~30mins of the womens race and then a few hours of the mens race. better than nothing i suppose.

Fox sports covering from 1-2pm Womens RR, 2-5pm Men's RR and it's the same coverage as GEM, AFAIK.

Gav!n called it, Rohan Dennis 1st in the TT, Richie Porte 38.7s back and Sean Lake 3rd at 1:34.

EDIT: just saw the women's results, Katrin Garfoot over Shara Gillow and Tiffany Cromwell. I've actually done a club TT where Shara was also racing, she lapped me  .

Only once - show off :D

You have to feel sorry for the riders with no teammates, such as Simon Clarke & Jay McCarthy. Even Dennis and Porte will do it tough with just the 2 of them. On the numbers OGE would have to be favourites with Gerrans and Ewan, but Hausler managed it last year with just the one teammate

I'm going to have a good view this year as I'll be driving chief comm car.

My pick - Gerrans will boss OGE for the win.

Outstanding ride. And now the Peleton has disintegrated.

Wow what a ride ...!! [emoji50]
It's not often that a "boring" solo breakaway win is so compelling - he literally destroyed the field single-handedly.

I gave you 2nd on the line with the ever smiling GG third.

Great ride from Bobridge with the best looking bike in the race too. Fantastic effort by Pat Lane on such a hard day.

What a day! Has to leave before the jack bobridge championship race was over (what an animal!) But enjoyed having the women's and men's on the same day. Great race by orica-ais, Sarah Roy put in some hard kms and Spratt did the job at the end with a bonus rach neylan podium! Much more tolerable weather for the ladies.

It was a brutal race. Bobridge and Lane were superb and Bobridge was on another level doing 15-min laps. Only 15 riders finished and 112 abandoned (or were withdrawn).

Porte was dropped twice and he gave us a big grin each time as we slowly drove past. Great to see that OGE can no longer dominate such a race as they had been able to in the past.

Surely would have to be serious embarrassment for OGE, the entire team defeated by a single rider. Didn't even make the podium - in fact I think Gerro was the only finisher.

I missed out on a lot of it thanks to my stupid HDD recorder. Only caught the last 20km and was a little bit disappointed to hear he had a 6 1/2 minute lead as it meant a relatively unexciting last 20km. The race was over. That doesn't take away from amazing ride he had. I don't think anyone would have picked that! Especially by such a margin. Incredible and certainly one of the most deserved wins. No luck in that win, just pure guts. No doubt Trek will be happy with their new signing!!

Think my lack of French would make that a bit tricky!

But yes, it is something you are definitely mindful of when following riders at close quarters for a total of 285km of racing in a day. There are definitely special techniques and driving skills for managing vehicles in a bike race. It's a dynamic living organism, and the work that goes on by the commissaires to manage the race and race convoy vehicles is non-stop. If officials and their vehicles are not noticed, that's generally a good sign.
