That's a given and well know. It was Wiggins walking up a climb that I didn't know about.

Nah - walking up climbs to riding up climbs to smashing all comers up climbs - that's just incremental improvement.

So how many of you here in the firmly anti-doping camp are actually potentially doping as well, possibly even this morning?

How many of you have consumed caffeine (coca cola, coffee, etc)?

It could become a prohibited substance. I know I drink plenty of coffee, and I know at least a couple of you here do as well.

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/caffeine-co ... utzbu.html

With any luck that won't happen. Not because I care about any performance enhancing effects of coffee, but more that I love coffee.

If caffeine ever did return to the prohibited substances list, it would be with a minimum blood concentration level before being considered doping. IOW drinking your regular morning latte is never going to be classified as doping.

I thought caffeine was already on the list but the maximum allowable (the minimum you get pinged for) is so high that you can't fail the test by consumption of coffee, coke etc.

Remember the Australian pentathlete Alex Watson got sent home from the 1988 Seoul Olympics for failing the caffeine test after the fencing event.

I rode past some very fit people (ie. real athletes) on Sunday (Newcrest Orange) who were walking up the final climbs. My glycogen stores were also long gone (damn it!), but in addition to training loaded, I also train depleted.

And even Cadel bonked in his first Grand Tour (Giro?).

But I do find the transformations from "elite" to "world class" for W & F a bit hard to understand.

My regular morning coffee is more like three espressos before 9:30am.  I know, not good...

It won't affect me anyway, and I do know the sorts of things you are talking about.

Interesting incidental commentary from the player at the centre of the scandal on how easy it is to avoid drug testing in the NRL.

Sounds like the NRL is stuck where cycling was from 1998-2008.

An interesting article on Froome's doctor who worked for Astana and had Vinokourev as a client.

For all the talk of Sky these days (which is highly entertaining  ) ......I read in the Cycling News Paris-Nice wrap up yesty
As Contador warmed down on the rollers, a shake of the head and consolation pats on the back from Richard Virenque and Christian Prudhomme......
  Tour of renewal indeed. Nice to see all is forgiven for Virenque. Who could forget the heaving sobs and platitudes post Festina from the big sook?

Yes, Virenque, with the bleached hair to beat the rumoured EPO hair test of the period.

"Dr. Ferrari found guilty of doping by Italian court". Better late than never I guess, although it didn't involve a cyclist.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/giro-di ... n-control/

"Stefano Pirazzi and Nicola Ruffoni of Bardiani CSF have returned positive tests in out-of-competition doping controls, the UCI confirmed Thursday. Both riders were slated to start the Giro d'Italia "

Oops ....

Interesting to see if Bardiani CSF can still start (given the late notice) and if so, who replaces Pirazzi & Ruffoni ?

Bardiani CSF hope to remain in Giro d'Italia despite doping positives
The team face a 15-45 day suspension for having two doping positives in a 12-month period under the UCI rules, but their ban needs to come after a meeting of the UCI's Disciplinary Commission, which could be weeks off.
...
Should the Bardiani-CSF team start the Giro d'Italia on Friday morning as they indicate, they will only be allowed seven riders, as the time to name substitute riders has expired.

UCI have finally got around to suspending Bardiani CSF - despite the bleating from the team about the 30 day suspension, it seems they will miss just one major race, the tour of Austria
