Seems EPO is still out there
cyclingnews.com wrote:The UCI has confirmed that new Euskaltel-Euskadi recruit Alexander Serebryakov returned an adverse analytical finding for EPO, according to Tuttiobiciweb.it.

Unfortunately the judge ruled that the identity of the blood bags can't be revealed so another cover up really. Fuentes gets a slap over the wrist. Spain's cheating cyclists, footballers and other sportspeople a protected species.

OK, this I get. Statute of limitations applies, locally anyway. I'd bet WADA are annoyed.
article wrote: Judge Santamaria resisted pressure during the trial to provide the names of athletes implicated in the scandal.
Whats at risk? Spanish cyclists, football (2010 World Cup, 2008 and 2012 UEFA champs?), basketball (2008 and 2012 Olympic silver??) What else?

I'd bet WADA are more annoyed...

While the Doctor is Spanish, the clients were from many nations.

I think they gave those athletes up initially and they came from the cycling world.

The spanish tennis players and soccer players though - well that's another story

He was on EPO and still couldn't win stages despite his attacks. What does that say about the guys beating him? So much for a cleaner peloton.

With Di Luca only having 2 days of racing prior to the Giro I don't think it says much about the guys beating him.

I can understand the suspicion though - just too many positives to take anything on trust & words & passing tests prove nothing

Here was I thinking that Santambrogio had returned to some form in the Giro after doing nothing on BMC but he was just cheating

Santambrogio suspended by UCI for epo positive

Sigh.

And maybe that's why he was let go from BMC ..... ?

Interesting that he kept riding after DdL got popped, but he was pretty quiet and hoping he wouldn't get popped.

Sad day indeed. Again

It's a pity that Evans' mechanical saw him drop to third from second in the Giro since there's always the chance that Nibali gets popped (rumours are circulating of a positive).

Also heard of Nibali possibly being EPO+ in the first week of the Giro this arvo. The way it's going Cadel just has to beat Cav over the Alps and the TDF is his. Everyone else will have been booted after the Prologue.

Interestingly it seems WADA have come up with a better procedure for detecting EPO use
cyclingnews.com wrote:The UCI has now announced that [Serebryakov] also failed an out-of-competition control taken on 21 February 2012, after a further reanalysis "carried out in accordance with new WADA technical documents concerning the identification of EPO."

It is likely the same testing procedure and the ability to spot EPO use for longer in urine samples lead to the positive test of both Vini Fantini riders Danilo Di Luca and Mauro Santambrogio.

FINALLY  . Only took him 7 years to find his idea of a 'conscience'. "It wasn't cheating because everyone else was too"? I hate that attitude.

I'm starting to read through the english version of Antione Vayers analysis of the major players in the TdF. It can be purchased electronically through Joomag and is called 21 Counts

Ends up downloading as a 50 Meg pdf file, 148 pages long.

REALLY interesting reading indeed.

No real surprises though, but some of the numbers (wattage) that some have been able to generate are just amazing !!! Seems to be w3ell put together and easy to understand.

Some of the wattage estimates are amazing(ly bad). Vayer does this stuff every year complete with the same mistakes, just this time it's compiled into a e-mag format.
