I also heard that it took 20 minutes for distressed riders to receive medical assistance.

Like FIFA who gave the soccer world cup to that god-forsaken hole, the UCI are now being called corrupt.
Who would have thought?

I just read that Qatar paid the UCI around 10m euros to host the world championships, almost double the usual amount.Derny Driver wrote:UCI is getting hammered for putting CASH before rider safety. There is talk the mens road race may be reduced to 100km due to heat. FFS everyone knew Qatar was a desert before they gave them the World Champs.

Anyone in that front group was a deserving winner. Sagan showed he is a true champ. Winning 2 years in a row on completely different course styles.

Pity also that the TV coverage started after the big split occurred.

I get it that there were not many spectators, it is hot and people spend time indoors plus the roads were closed and car access restricted. The course led riders through many newly developed parts of doha which I found intriguing - the level of new development and construction is mind-blowing.
I watch the women's race which I personally found more exciting in the build up to the sprint, however could anticipate the results of the mens race.
With the Matt Keenan commentary, I was interested in the 'water bottle squirt' incident from the German Degonkolb who was pictured as a poor sportsman. However more of the story was revealed later that the belgium riders where moving to the front of the chase group, then sitting up and slowing down which is both dangerous and unfair. Of course they can position themself to limit the effectiveness of a chase our counter-attack but when the action is disruptive, then it is too much.
