Tirreno Adriatico

Wonder is Sagan is at fault for this one too?

I'm wondering if it's just a bad run of luck, age and reduced reflexes or desperation? I guess TDF will be an indicator....on past performance I don't fancy his chances.

Yep, 32 years old, well and truly past it. Off to the retirement village, huh? It's a racing accident, they happen, even to much younger riders.

If this wasn't Mark Cavendish, nobody would care. If it was a relative no-name pro rider it wouldn't even be in the news, or it'd hit the local news at best.

Well der   of course it’s a big deal cos it’s Crashendish. And I don’t think it’s an unreasonable question, certainly not meant to be insulting (the age). There’s a limit to how long a person will risk himself to win a race... just ask Andy Schleck....just as there’s a point at which a persons reflexes begin a downward trajectory.

Well I guess he’ll still take the risk of trying to find a gap that isn’t there.....

Somehow he will find blame in someone else, despite 164 other riders negotiating it correctly.

Exactly. More to the point the bollard was unflagged unlike most every other piece of road furniture and he wasn't the only other rider to come down too in that mishap. Hopes for a speedy recovery.

Cavendish needs glasses to miss such an obvious obstacle...

He was the only one out of 160 odd riders who hit that, and caused the pile up

Bit harsh on Cav here, race pace after 250+ clicks, the rider in front swerves out. (BTW, The bollard incident wasn't in Tirreno Adriatico.)

The conversation has moved to how much cavendish crashes now. We all know the bollard incident was Milan sanremo.

Not really harsh considering all his fingers point outward every time he crashes

Agree. Some people are allowing their dislike of Cavendish to see things through a very narrow view. All pro riders crash.... and when you make that statement it isn't one of those meaningless sweeping comments that aren't actually true, pro riders will crash multiple times during a year. Of course the majority of those riders don't have the high profile of a Cavendish so it doesn't make headlines or draw comments on forums like this.
So Cavendish crashed, he isn't Robinson Crusoe on that score.

No, but I can't think of another sprinter who consistently brings others down in his pursuit of the non existent gap. Maybe ask Gerrans about it? Or Sagan?

Yeah - and one of the crashes he had this year was into the back of a car in the neutral zone, when the car auto-braked in front of the group. It's a bit hard to blame him for THAT one.

Actually, he didn't touch the car. He ran into the back of a sky rider., and fell on top of old mate. They seem to be the only two that hit the ground. It was terrible luck tbh. Vid here.
