Tour of the Alps

Postby fat and old » Thu Apr 19, 2018 7:33 am

Anyone else watching? I've been keeping an eye on Ben O'Conner since his ride on St. 1 and the young fellas not disappointing! Up to 8th now, with a stage win last night.

Not watching, but checking the results and hoping a certain rider doesn't figure too prominently, but sadly he looks strong.

Aru not doing as well as he should be, but Pinot seems to be doing well.

I have been watching. If that rider is the one I think you mean, he isn't going that well at all.

I haven't been watching, but now I see where the tour finishes, I've ridden almost all of that complete stage, absolutely awesome place. So I will be watching from now if I get the time. 8)

I'm not so sure about that.....i reckon it's as good as it gets for Aru. His Vuelta win was an aberration; he beat Dumoulin and Purito and an overcooked Quintana....and he was riding for Vino.....

I'm reminded of TJVG and a host of other "men to watch"....and quite possibly Richie Porte.

That's a bit harsh - as well as winning the Vuelta in 2015 & 5th in 2014 Aru was 3rd & 2nd in the Giro & 5th in the Tour, only outside the top 10 once in each grand tour.

TJVG has been 5th in the Tour twice & sfa the other 8 attempts at a grand tour.

Porte has a 5th in the Tour & 7th in the Giro but sfa in his other 9 grand tours

Listening to the Eurosport commentary (Kirby/Backstedt) - they were adamant the he was in the race to win it, and had the form to do it.

In three stages so far he has tried to impose himself - and failed.

But probably in good enough form this far out from the Giro.

Ellisonde is the only Sky rider to impress so far.

Yeah, the stats say otherwise, but I'm not convinced post Astana. I do like his style, and his pain face

And O'Conner stayed with the heavy hitters. Doing well.

He hung in! In front of all the heavy hitters last night and up a spot in the final GC. Well done. May have another 1 Week man here.
