hey guys, my bike has been stolen from Grote street (infront of central markets, near the Coles) thursday the 8th of october between the hours of 18:00 and 12:00.

bike is the same now except i changed the pedals so it has holsters.

Far out that sux. I stopped and ogled this on Tuesday? on grote i think.
Ring around(notify) and check out the local Crime convertors and pawn shops too.
I'll keep an eye out in the CBD as I'm mobile all over during the week.

Did you just use a cable lock as in the photo? 1/200th price of the bike?

It was a combination lock, a very tough one.

Also the value of the lock has nothing to do with the value of the bike.
If a thief wants to steal it he/she wil , and no lock wil stop him/her.

A question like that implies the owner had it coming becasue he didn't spend enough on a bike lock...
At least he bought a lock , i have seen more expensive bikes unlocked all the time.

And I think the wheels are worth more then the bike, I reckon it is stolen for the wheels.
Wouldn't be surprised if the frame gets dumped, or at least get different wheels before they try and sell it, or not if they are really dumb.....

Imply away dh. Have seen bikes where the owners have taken the wheels off or locked the front wheel to the back. Don't see too many CFs with aero wheels locked on the street esp at high ped areas given they are easy to carry around too.

Edit: OP wrote "combo lock very tough" but what was it? It's still a cable lock isn't it? Just cut the cable don't worry about figuring the password.

Anyway good luck with the OP finding the bike. It is very distinct so should be easier to be recognised.

Re the other felt bike on gumtree, my heart jumped out of my chest when i saw that, but its not mine, plus it was listed before mine was stolen.
I had been working at her majestys theatre all week so the bike was out there most of the time, and being a busy street with many other cool bikes i thought i was safe. Guess i was wrong.
If anyone knows anything pleasr contact me, i will offer a 200 dollar no questions asked rewaed for anyone returning the bike, i need this to get around and ive barely been able to sleep since thursday when it was taken.

At least your bike should be easy to spot if someone is stupid enough to ride it in SA. I'll make sure to keep a look out for it.

So did they cut the cable or crack the code? It's good to know, as I'm sure there are a few of us that have left our bikes locked in the vicinity.

Firstly, Aerospokes aren't carbon, they're plastic. Secondly, cable locks aren't strong. Seriously. U-locks are way harder to cut through. Thirdly, there have been some sketchy characters trying to steal bikes from Westpac house in broad daylight (4pm-ish). These bikes had their cable locks almost all the way cut through. They were $1000+ road bikes with cheap cable locks. If your bike looks pretty and you have a cable lock, snip snip and gone.

Finally, it sucks that your bike got stolen, particulary from Grote street. I'll keep an eye out.

Also, was it down near Bakers Delight when locked or up near the Hilton?

Firstly ,aerospokes are not plastic, if they where, they would not last long..
They are a carbon composite.

Secondly, a U lock is not that strong either , if you know how to 'crack' it.
And if you have a grinder handy , it wil also be open very quickly..

The only thing you could do is use more then 1 lock, use two or three, and use different type of locks.

Sorry, Aerojokes are a carbon plastic composite that weighs a ton. I owned one.

Secondly, I've been using a Kryptonite Mini-D for the last three years, no probs. If someone wants to steal your bike they will, but a $100 u-lock is better than $100 cable.

Those new cordless grinders are super scary in relation to bike theft!

verbs and nouns: i ride them for their strength and yes i will probably be buying 2 locks in the near future, but i honestly i doubt that'd make a difference either if someone has a way they'll use it, it's just an opportunity thing.

How could somebody just cut through a cable like that in the middle of a busy street without anyone noticing/becoming suspicious? Makes me worried seeing as I lock my bike with a crappy $5 cheap as chips cable

That first one is very worrying indeed! Would it be the same in Australia though? I like to think it would be different but there are already hundreds of cases proving me wrong. I was shocked at the racism in the second one, but who am I to argue the stereotypes of our society?

All 'carbon' items are a carbon fibres with some kind of 'plastic' - polymers, polyesters, epoxies or whatever. You generally don't get solid carbon bits...you need some kind of resin to stick the fibres together. If someone says 'carbon' it's a given that's what they mean. 'Carbon composite' usually refers to carbon fibres along with glass, or kevlar, or something else that's not carbon, again impregnated with a resin of some kind.

On topic, I thought I saw a bike just like that in Perth last week. I hope it wasn't the one...

Sorry, if your referring to me. I don't spend much time on forums and hadn't seen your post.

I can't tell you anything, other than a guy rode past in Northbridge (central city area) and I looked because of the wheels, and the fact that a friend rides a Felt so I have a slight interest. He was flying down William Street to get through the lights, so I didn't get a great look. Really, I can't say if it was the same....apologies.

Pretty sure i just saw my wheels on gumtree, for a measly 250 dollars. Someone got them before me though. I did however manage to get the guys address. This is so annoying.
