That sucks Geoff.
I generally keep an eye out for other Avanti bikes on the road (see my sig) but I'll be extra vigilant in the Hills when riding..... Hopefully it's spotted and recognised as stolen.
Cheers.

Did you buy it with a gold credit card?
Gold credit cards typically include 90 day purchase protection insurance. This covers you against the theft of the goods in that period. (Check the fine print though.)
After that it is often possible to add your bike to a contents insurance policy as a specified item to insure against theft anywhere in Australia and New Zealand.
If it doesn't help you this time, then maybe next time... commiserations.

if it was stolen from home it might well be covered under the contents insurance anyway...

Thanks peoples.
Just spoke to my bank (Commonwealth Bank). They can't do anything unless I made the purchase whilst travelling overseas
My insurance - well they (AAMI) will only cover upto $1000 and the excess is $600. With only $400 left, anyone have any good deals going

Shame about the coverage - certainly the Westpac and NAB gold policies purchase protection are separate from the overseas travel insurance. (And they have extended warranty cover to boot.)
I think there is typically a $1000 limit per item in contents insurance policies unless you specify them. But, your accessories could be considered additional items while the excess should only apply once per 'event'. Thus, if you add up the cost of all your accessories you might just be able to get more than $400 back. Not a whole lot of comfort... but better than a poke in the eye.
