Stolen Thorn Raven

Even though the bike was stolen in Nepal may eventually make its way to Oz via India.
Just in case it ever turns up here am putting the details of a stolen bike.

A black size 487L (small one) with a badly damaged fork and a dent in the down tube.
The bike was fully decked out with tubus racks and also had the Ortlieb handle bar mount on it.
Also stolen was a green Exped Gemini II tent in a well used red Ortlieb bag

Stolen in Nepal late June/2013 and may turn up in India and then to Oz.
Have reported it to Rohloff and SJS and the Nepalese "police". We searched for the bike and put posters up offering a reward to no avail. Two articles went into the Kathmandu newspapers with no results. We also contacted numerous Nepal and Indian warmshower hosts. We'll see.

Rohloff say they have a %50 chance of getting it back to the rightful owner. It never even got its first oil change.

This was also posted on the thorncycle uk site. It may make its way there.

Being stolen within 20km of India (Nepalganj in Nepal, north of Lucknow) may end up in Delhi and then on to Oz for some parts.

Commiserations. That's a terrible loss after so much planning and preparation.

My wife and I have both had gear stolen in Nepal, but nothing on this scale.

Hope you get it back.

Chance of getting it back is slim to zero, and am now looking at doing another one.

Knowing how closely attached to our bikes we become this must have been a devastating loss. Especially so far from home and being so totally dependent on the bikes and their load.
It's almost equivalent to losing your car and home and every possession.
This one selfish act must have ruined your holiday.
How did you cope?
I'm not an especially materialistic person but my bikes and camping gear are an exception to the rule. I love them, not as possession so much as their inherent potential for fun, adventure, good health, travel and escape from a sometimes mundane existence.
I genuinely feel for you.

Yeh we had to go home but oddly we were heading into the flood affected area of India within 2 days.
It may have been a sign from a higher being.
Next time will have a lock with a 110db alarm.

We had something happen to us in South America years ago where we got ambushed at gunpoint while cycling and had a passport and all documents stolen.
When it happens it happens. No amount of planning will stop it.
Am secretly hoping to get the bike back. Or at least the back wheel.
I really don't think the thief knows what they stole. Unless it was a westerner.
