Not been my week. It looks like my Shimano M505 pedals (well the left one anyway) are ageing. It has a rough feel to it when I spin it and I am getting a dry sounding noise (bit like a chain can sound when it is dry) and I suspect the pedal is the issue.

Does anyone now if these can be stripped down and rebuilt or are they throw away jobs? I have a spare set of pedals which I can throw on if I have to.

BTW these pedals have done around 8,800 km.

It sounds like the bearings are either dry or have some crud contamination in them.

I'm sure they are rebuildable, its probably more about if you can purchase the individual bits to rebuild the bearing assembly.

Shimano's website have diagrams of how the pedals are built, which may come in handy.

and then click on MTB pedals and then 505's.

Thanks Timbo. Missed that last night. c r c have a couple of kits availale, but not listed as being for the M505. The cost if it is a guide, really counts out rebuilding them. I might see if I can just clean these ones up and re-grease them.
