8 to 9 speed

Postby tatt2 » Mon Nov 24, 2008 7:34 pm

A friend of mine was giving a brand new 9 speed cassette and wants to fit it to his 8 speed, i told him it will fit, but now am thinking maybe the chain on the 8 speed will be too thick, is it as simple as just changing the cassette?

It will fit - 9 speed cassette same width as 8 speed

But because of that, a 9 speed cassette must have a 9 speed chain.
