More lube questions

Postby Anakist » Mon Aug 09, 2010 1:55 pm

I guys.

I am replacing the balls in my front hub with ceramic ones and I need a recommendation on lube for them. I read that ceramic balls can use a thinner lube and that contributes to less friction as well.

Any recommendations?

Of the bearing balls? No idea. Ebayer from china.

Same on the hub. Just pulled the old ones from my bikes apart so no recommendations there.

The bearing shop should be able to sell you grease best suited to ceramic bearings - I know SKF have it up here. If you use something thin you'll have to be prepared to check and regularly re-do it. For my money I'd be packing it with a decent grease so that it remains a once-a-year job.

For future reference:

I had a bit of a look around, and SKF LGHP 2 grease is what some company supplies for the ceramic bearings in their jockey wheels or bottom or whatever it was I saw. Smallest amount is 420g though.

I shall be going and getting some of that when my balls show up.
