Running lights wire along frame
Postby thelittlebattler » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:56 pm
I've just received my dealextreme magicshine lights (front and back), with a Y cable. Wondering what the best way to fix the wire to the frame is though? Probably applies to any wire or cable (eg cadence) that needs to run along the frame. I'm slightly overprotective of my carbon, and wanted to get some ideas before getting out the electrical tape

If you want something removable, then velco cable ties, available from an electronics shop, like Jaycar, Dick Smiths etc.

For something move permanent, regular cable ties with maybe a bit of clear film on the frame first to protect from scuffing, scratching or catastrophic failures.

If you don't want to leave any residue, try self-amalgamating tape which sticks to itself rather than the frame. Otherwise, get some clear frame protection tape and use it to stick the wire in place.

If you use cable ties make you you use flush cuts or trim them down with a sharp knife. If you use side-cutters the sharp edge will cut you to bits. Personally I would use electrical tape, it's light, simple and has been doing to job for decades. You can get it in most colours so might even be able to match your frame.

Dura-ace Di2 comes with stickers to hid the cables on the frame.

Yep. The scar along my forearm attests to that. BB tool slipped once and my arm dragged along the end of a zip tie around a chain stay protector.DaveOZ wrote:If you use cable ties make you you use flush cuts or trim them down with a sharp knife. Just align them so the cut bit is under the tube as opposed to on the side.

There you go LittleBattler, just shell out for a Di2 gruppo and use the supplied stickers that come with it. Problem solved.

I have exactly same configuration LB....and love em !
I have my battery in centre bag of my rear panniers then y cable with 3w rear on back of bag and then extension cable with 3 zip ties along underside of top tube
I have no problems with the zip ties (flush cut) and pushed with joint to underside
I have to carry my bikje up a flight of stairs each morning and thats the only time I notice it
Just gotta remember to disconnect before removing my bag
All in all very happy despite early setbacks with batteries
