Couple minutes rattling then ping - can't find what fell off
Postby nutsack » Sat Dec 04, 2010 9:29 pm
Before I could take a break and investigate a ping and then the sound of metal hitting thecroad and bouncing off. Stopped couldn't find what fell off or anything missing from my bike (or me) and the bike was silent for the remainder of the ride without any signs of trouble.
Have no idea what came off. Everything important I can sees still attached and no bolts appear missing.

Check under your shoes, maybe a cleat bolt fell out. Otherwise it sounds like a chainring bolt (check both inside & out) or a crank arm cap.

The sound was coming from that direction but I am happy to report everything is intact there.master6 wrote:nutsack, you cant fool us that easily. Have you checked your nutsack?
Still not sure what came off but the bike rides fine. Bizarre.

When the item flew off it went left. Is there supposed to be a cap on the left hand side crank that fits into the thread as in the picture above?

How important is the cap, in terms of safety riding the bike for the remainder of the week until I can try sourcing a replacement?
I assume its just a cap and only serves as protection/cover.

Told you so I know I'm only new here, but I do have extra sensory bike bling detection abilities. My next prediction is you'll now visit your LBS & inquire about a crank arm cap for an FSA SL-K light hollow carbon crank or do the online deal for $10ZepinAtor wrote:Are all your fillings still in your teeth ?

I always fun ordering stuff from overseas.
In order to qualify for free shipping I bought :
1 x Fizik PA:K ICS Saddle Bag with Clip - Medium Medium <--- ordered a new Fizik saddle from PBK 2 days earlier
1 x Hope Grip Doctor Bar End Plugs Black - I have silver ones I used with my last bike when I had white handlebar tape, but I'm going with black this time.
1 x FSA Self Extracting Bolt for BB-8000 (Road) Black
3 x High5 Zero Drink Berry }
2 x High5 Zero Drink Cherry/Orange } these are great - really notice a difference in stamina when I use them, prefer them to gatorade/powerade
Oh and if I just ordered the FSA bolt the shipping was $25

IIRC, young peoples would be saying "werd" about now. Online buying tends to rewire the brain into a more feminine paradigm.
