Not sure if I should put this in the sticky list, but here 'tis:

More of a graphical interface, just slide the gears about till you get your ratios, select your tyre size, and off you go.

Very nice presentation. But it could not handle 11 cog for some reason.

11 worked fine for me. I tried putting the two chainrings on 53 and 50 and an 11-25 cassette to compare compact vs. non compact for the high end, it's interesting to see graphically where the 11 and 12 fit:

Thanks and it indeed works. I suspect it may have something to do with the sequence of settings on my last attempt. Now I wonder if it'll handle 11 speed cassette... And that works too. Nice!

Thanks for that.... very nice! it will give me a nice clear graphical interface to explain gear ratios to my SO.... she isn't convinced that she will struggle to tour in mountainous regions with her CRX with the gearing as it is.

I have an iPhone app with a poker machine style tumbler for cog selection. It spits out the gain ratio, skid patches for fixies, gear inches & rollout. Absolutely brilliant. Will see if there's a PC link to it.

Ok I found the app, but good old apple won't let me use it other than through the phone.

Thread resurrection, but the creator, Dirk, has very kindly updated the calculator in the OP to include the new Shimano 6800 and semicompact options. What a legend!

Get with the program homie !!

Drag the cogs off to the left until you have the number you desire. Here's my chart with a 7 speed.

yes ... we're like record players compared to mp3's, takes a little more effort than the bird brains can handle but we know what sounds the best

If you really want the options, send him an email. He added 6800 after I asked for it ;)

Interesting to see what riders in the pre and post war era (Bartali, Coppi et al) were riding with. Makes today's riders seem almost spoilt.

3 teeth to the 21? LUXURY! In my day, we'd get up before we went bed, cleaned the lake....

I'm guessing you shifted either FD or RD to change, wouldn't be a significant disadvantage either way using the downtube levers. I'm guessing you would definitely be shifting in advance to cover your gradient... I think we're definitely spoilt because all I can see with the corn cob is HTFU to cope with hills :D

Bizzare, I think it might have been a DNS issue. I switched to 3G from wifi and worked fine....

Thanks!
