I noticed that my LHT drivetrain isn't completely silent, and while I was cleaning the chain, I noticed that the first jockey wheel (closest to the cassette) actually moves laterally around the bearing. Nothing seems loose and I have done about 1,500ks on it and there's no damage to the jockey wheel. Are they meant to be able to move like this?
The derailluer is a XTR long cage.

I think that's actually on most modern Shimano RD's.

AFAIK it's standard Shamino as a way of ensuring good indexing even if the adjustment is a fraction out.
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

They're called something along the lines of floating bearings. My Dura Ace 7800 ones do the same thing. Stress not
