Bicycle recalls

I just had a call from LBS where I purchased my Felt TT bike to say that there is a recall on them due to the forks may crack at the steerer and become detached from the handlebars and bicycle

There seem to be quite a few other bikes (and parts) on the recall list, could be an idea if people checked the list to see if they have a bike or part that is on the list as not all LBS' would keep records (especially if it was only a part).

That one must be an error, we all know steel doesn't break, i could understand it if the steerer was that dangerous carbon fibre stuff :) .

So the message here seems to be , forks are dangerous, so we should all ride unicycles or be able to chuck monos for miles?

I ride a Lefty, so am I reducing the risk by half?

Wow that gives a new definition of Dodgeball. Thats crazy... I've seen American footballs being made on "how its made" and i'm suprised to see that a sewing needle was left in. They use a Leather needle to hook the stitching through.... They are very strong sewing needles.

Probably not relevant for Aussie customers as Cube (brand) bikes are not that big in Australia.

Schwalbe received some reports of Ultremo ZX tires mounted on 2013 Cube bikes coming of the rim causing damage to the bead

The special edition Schwalbe Ultremo ZX tyres, size 23-622, special model, wire bead, non-folding, fitted on Cube bikes will be replaced free of charge for the consumers. As the cause of this problem could not be found in either the manufacturing of the tire or in the assembly of the bicycle Schwalbe decided to replace all tires involved.

It affects the following models: Axial GTC SL, Peloton Pro 3, Peloton Race compact, Peloton Race 3, Agree GTC Race compact, Agree GTC Race 3, Agree GTC SL compact, Agree GTC SL 3, Agree GTC Di2 SLT compact, Aerium Pro, AeriumRace.

Well thank god my Cube didn't come with these tyres or it would have been another recall, I just got it back with shiny new brakes, only took 6 weeks!

It's interesting that when you take a recalled bike in to the place of purchase , even with the downloaded recall advice they have NFI of what it is all about.
Is there a break in communication here? The supplier/ importer has the LBS contact no., the LBS has a record of purchase and my contact no. Why did I need to read about the recall here and explain at the LBS why I was leaving the bike?

If something dreadful happened, who would be responsible?

Not so at my Trek lbs. Went in to discuss the day the recall came out. They knew I had two effected bikes and admitted they couldn't find my contact number. Had all the recall notices and knew all the correct procedures. Took them in day after recall and picked them up yesterday. The replacement for is much better than the original NRX but the fact that the swap out colours are only glossy white or black may effect a few owners who have different colour schemes.......(mines the matte white 2013 DS 8.4. Looks a bit different but I can live with it :) )

Not mentioned on the recalls website yet but Trek seem to be having a worldwide recall on certain front QR skewers.
