Someone was left quadriplegic and the skewers are generic so may be on a lot of other low range bikes

That's actually a really stupid one. How about people taking responsibility for ensuring their equipment is fitted correctly.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

My thought was that because the problem skewer was fitted onto relatively low end bikes, the end user was less likely to be knowledgeable. Agreed that much of the responsibility lies with the user, but it seems that the potential for serious injury is huge here.

I've seen plenty of people riding with the quick release in the undone position, they seem to think you just wind it up to get it tight, it would cause an issue then.

You could also think of what could happen if it got knocked open.

My old mate and his wife (retired history teacher/accountant) brought two $500 MTbs home from toowoomba, and got me out to check his reassembly before he rode them. The Quick-Release levers were stuck out at 90degrees
waiting to ctach on something laugh. They're a bit of a mystery to many people i gather. :)

This week the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a huge recall of around 1.3 million!!! bikes with disc brakes and QR levers that can get caught in the brake rotors causing an OTB. With such an obvious hazard (even though it can only cause an incident if the QR lever is undone), I think the manufacturers should have seen this coming.

Interesting. I have a Trek with disc brakes but it doesn't have QR skewers. Wonder if that's a response? Although it is last season's model.

THrough axle or boltup? You're fine. This relates only to QR fitted front hubs owned by people who can't use QRs.

Cannondale Bad Boy and Bad Girl bicycles 2010-2012 have been recalled because the forks can crack.

Issue
This recall is a result of reports of some 2010-2012 Cannondale Bad Boy and Bad Girl bicycles developing fatigue cracks
where the axle meets the fork leg. Fatigue cracks grow with use and can result in a broken axle. There is a risk that the axle
may separate from the fork leg, with risk of an accident or injury.

2016 Specialized S-Works Venge Vias and Venge Pro Vias road bicycles

Postby AUbicycles » Fri Oct 14, 2016 9:23 pm

Specialized issued a voluntary recall in the US after it received seven reports of fractures in the bicycle’s rear triangle after the rear wheel came out of the dropout.

This recall involves 2016 Specialized S-Works Venge Vias and Venge Pro Vias road bicycles. About 1,000 units were sold in black, white, red and black, white and black and green and blue color combinations.

Distribution outside the US
According to Specialized the recalled S-Works Venge Vias and Venge Pro Vias were distributed via Specialized retailers from July 2015 through September 2016 for between $6,200 (5,600 euro) and $12,900 (11,700 euro). The recall doesn’t mentioned if and how units of these recalled bike were distributed outside the US.

The problem can be solved easily with the installation of a new rear derailleur hanger. Therefore consumers are summoned to stop using the recalled bicycles and contact an authorized Specialized retailer.

Noticed the Merida Speeder disc is being recalled because the lawyer's lips on the front fork won't hold the wheel if the QR is undone

Yet another recall that demonstrates nothing more than the blind stupidity of the Australian standard.

Recall - Giant Bicycle Co. Pty Ltd

It seems he recall was in January but only being picked up in the news now
Giant mountain bikes recalled because of handlebar width

Tell me again how wide handlebars are a safety hazard on a MTN bike? How is that anything is going to be trapped because there is no chain guard when the bike has a rear derailleur.

Heh, didn't notice this thread before.

Trek has a recall going on - at least they're upfront about dodgy spokes and doing the right thing by the customer.

http://trek.scene7.com/is/content/TrekB ... -GB-AU.pdf
A limited number of model year 2015, 2016 and 2017 Trek bicycles were made with a wheel set that exhibits a higher rate of spoke breakage. On the front wheel of the bicycle, a broken spoke could engage with the brake calliper, causing the bicycle to stop suddenly, resulting in a serious accident.

Your safety is very important to us. Therefore, Trek will replace the wheels on an affected bicycle, or an affected after-market wheel, free of charge. This letter contains important information regarding what to do next if you think you may have purchased one of these bicycles or an after-market wheel.
I forgot to add - they've also done MORE than the minimum fix, and added a bonus coupon for redemption.
In addition, when your recalled product has been repaired, Trek will give you a coupon worth 120 AUD to use towards any Trek or Bontrager merchandise. The coupon is valid until 31 December 2017 and has no cash value. If you have any questions, please contact your Trek retailer.
So if anyone is flogging a voucher, you know it didn't cost them anything...

I noticed a recall on Bianchi carbon forks on the Bianchi international site. Should I be concerned about this?
The recommendation is to dismantle the front forks and inspect the 'neck' of the forks. This applies to bikes that have a spacer on top which is longer than 5mm.
I only saw this as a result of looking at the Bowral Classic site of which Bianchi is a sponsor.
