Have had my road bike for only 2 months now, and from what I can tell it seems to be the cranks making a real racket, and I mean embarrassingly bad racket. 20 yo clunkers with rusted out chains and cassettes make less noise than mine.

It churns out a clickety clack sound 90% of the time, if I ease right off the crank applying minimal rotational force only then does it ease up. I don't suspect it is effecting my drive/momentum. But its certainly not right.

It's running full 105 gear. I'd take it back to the LBS but I have not been impressed with their service and they wont be seeing my business again (even if warranty)
The bike has not been running smooth from day 1 and when I asked them to look at certain issues with the running gear during its first service there was minimal improvement.

Pretty frustrating when a work colleague has the same bike with zero issues.

I know its not much to go off, but can anyone maybe identify what the problem may be by the sound :/ ?

Probably just crank arms & BB needs tightening, maybe some grease.

Also check that the pedals are inserted into the cranks tightly. The left hand side pedal is left threaded. (They should have greased the pedal threads before inserting them: my first annoying creak was a dry pedal thread.)

Take it back the LBS and let them sort it out.

Hi Jacobite, as per sogood, it's the bike shops responsibility to fix it.

Noises on bikes can be deceptive and what appears to be a bottom bracket noise could be coming from pretty much anywhere on the bike;
- Seat
- Seat post
- Stem
- Front or Rear Wheel
- Pedals
- Cleats
- Crack in frame
- Bottom bracket
