Converting Campag synchro index to friction

Postby Cooker » Sun Sep 09, 2012 12:28 pm

Hi all, I have a pair of early 90's Campag synchro shifters, not c record.
It's the 3 G spring variant that sits in a black plastic inner body.
The indexing gear just broke on it (in 3 peices) and I want to convert it to friction as a cheap mod to get by for the time being.

I disassembled and then reassembled it without the G springs and toothed gear.
When I tighten the central bolt, the lever still has lateral movement left to right and won't tighten so it will friction shift.
Do I need to fit a thick washer somewhere to take up the slack?

Any help would be great. Cheers
