2012/13 Sram Red Intall

Has anyone done a complete install of the new Sram Red?
If so, any peculiarities to look out for, particular tools I will need? I have purchased a headset press.
I will be installing on a Oppy Team frame with the press fit BB and internal cabling.

I have installed Dura-ace 7900,105 and 11 speed campy before but have not not press fit or internal cabling.
I have been reading that the new Red is pariticular with cable length for the RD.
Anything else I should know before I dive in?
I will be doing this in the next couple of weeks.

Yep I have those Sram Install vids bookmarked.
Just wondering if anyone had any issues installing it in particular with internal cable routing or any tips in general.

One tip is read the manual or watch the video for the FD install BEFORE you start. I didn't and just set it up like I would normally do and it didn't work, I had to reset the limit screws back to factory settings after I read the manual and try again. Give me Di2 any day.

Has if fixed the FD and noise issues in your opinion?

I don't actually ride it, it was for someone else. It definitely fixes the FD, a few people I know have bought the new FD for their old Red and are much happier. I can't comment on noise. I do know it is still SRAM and prone to random shifting failures.

Also the chain ends up being really short if you use the method SRAM recommend for chain length, as in short to the point of it looks like the RD is about to break when in the big ring and anywhere past half way up the cassette.

Did you lengthen the chain or stay with Sram's method?
I generally use this formula for chain length and it alway works out;

Chain length
L= 2 (c) + (f/4 + R/4 +1)

Where;
C= Chainstay Length,
F= Big Ring Front
R= Big Ring Rear

My mate is riding the SRAM suggested length, he said shifting at the top end of the cassette is really hard as the chain is so tight it takes a lot of effort to shift the RD.

The bike I built I just left the chain at the normal Shimano (or is it campag method) length (small to small through the RD, join the chain so that it has a small amount of tension on it) and it all worked out fine.

OK then, I will use my method with the formula first and if it runs crappy reduce to Sram's length

Sounds like Campag, the Shamino method is big/big, bypassing the mechs then add a link at overlap. I prefer to not add the link with roadies and hardtail MTBs to reduce chainslap.

If you are experiencing chain rub on the FD when you cross chain, try moving the derailleur up a mm. Due to the shape and the yaw movement this seems to stop any chain rub
