squeaky handlebar

Postby poohbear » Fri Dec 07, 2012 12:09 am

Hey guys,

noticed my commuting bike (hybrid) starting having squeaky sounds when i'm going uphill levering the force onto the handles, i can reproduce the noise if i force the handlebar in opposing directions.
the noise i think comes from the centre point..

what problem could this be? should it be checked out?

Hmmm. Remove bar, inspect for cracks, bending or dents. If clear, clean and lightly grease the area clamped by the stem. Reinstall the bar, evenly torquing the clamp bolts ensuring the faceplate is mounted evenly. Test.
...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Given your username, combined with the timing of the noise, I have to ask:

Are you sure that the squeaking noise is coming from in front of you and not from behind you? 8)
My bike blog. Long on rumination, rambling and opinion. Why let facts ruin everything?

If its a stem that you can adjust the angle on, grease those contact points
