Servicing BBB road pedals

Postby jham66 » Wed Dec 12, 2012 10:18 pm

Hi,

As the title suggests, how do you go about servicing BBB road pedals.
My right pedal has a click, it feels as though if it has cones then they need tightening. Just a small amount of play that, with the amplification effect of the frame, becomes too annoying! They are only about 1000km old and will still be under warranty, I was just a little foolish and chose a LBS that is not very local..... a bit of a pain to take in.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

While I have never had the opportunity to pull one apart, as far as I know you need a special tool to undo the lock ring located just in front of the pedal body.

There are three sealed internal bearings on the pedal shaft, and by the sounds of it at least one of those has given up the ghost.

If one or more bearings need replacing a trip to your LBS might still be your best bet.

Thank you. I was hoping I didn't need specialist tools, couldn't find a way in though.....

Just updating. I had misdiagnosed the problem. I have a Cannondale CAAD10, it has a BB30 bottom bracket. The BB was a bit dry of lube and had some grit in there too, I have been caught in quite a few storms lately and obviously a bit of grime got flicked up with all the water. After removal of the crankset and cleaning out the old grease, applying some quality grease in its place....... the sound is gone! I did not remove the pressed in bearings. There is still a small click in the pedal, but not an issue I will rectify right now.
