You can get smaller than 50, but you might as well leave it as it is, as you will start to use the big ring more and more as you get stronger.
If the R-1 rule is broken, what happens to N+1?

To head back to the original question as to how long components last. What should we be looking for to suggest that some components are on their last legs?

Chain "stretched", cogs worn like shark fins, jockey wheels worn to a point, cables rusty and hard to shift, cables with broken strands, tyres squared due to wear and repeated punctures, noisy bearing etc etc.cjmonke wrote:To head back to the original question as to how long components last.
