Wheel noise

My wheels have 1600 k's on them with no maintenance so far, and I have just started noticing that when I really put the power down especially up hills I'm getting a twanging spoke noise.

Ideas?

Spoke tension?

If it was spoke tension I thought I would of noticed some brake rub but I don't

Its possibly just the spokes rubbing together and nothing to worry about. If you want to put your mind at ease, slide a bit of electrical tape into the spoke crosses on the rear wheel and test it.

I had a similar noise, it was the rd mech rubbing the spokes when up the top if cassette and putting a bit more pressure down.

I loosened the skewer a fraction.

I suggest getting your rd properly adjusted and leaving the skewer done up tight. If its touching the spokes your limit screws arn't set correctly.

It is, the skewer was over tight.

Has been checked out by mechanic.

A twanging noise, especially if it's once per rotation, can also be cause by hub problems - check the bearings.

Hmmm.... ok. I'm with jacks on this though. Unless maybe you are using a 135mm hub in a 132.5mm spaced frame or something. I know Giant OCRs had this spacing so you could use 130mm or 135mm rear hubs.
