Hi experts!

Was cleaning the bike today and noticed this crack just below the rear wheel arch. Cause for concern?

If it was mine I'd be back at the shop and/or asking the manufacturer.

Looks worrisome. I second drubie - take it in. I presume it's a carbon fork?

It's the seatstay not the fork.

Thanks all,

Yes, carbon seatstay.

When I noticed it I was concerned, the more I look at it the worse I think it is. I'll be contacting the manufacturer via the bike shop and putting it aside until I know how to proceed. May give me an excuse to strip and rebuild it once it's repaired or replaced!

I wouldn't panic, looks like its in the paint but definitely get it checked for your own peace of mind.

Just got a message back from the shop. Box it up and send it back, looks like its a replacement

Going to miss the paint job on this frame, it was very sharp.

Look on the bright side, your sunny side might not have looked to shinny had it let go!... :)

At least you have a shop who are doing the right thing and getting it sorted. There are a few out there who don't.

Care to name the brand? As if they are replacing it then that's pretty good service... Looked to me as it was probably just a superficial paint crack, but u can never be sure..,

The frame has been shipped back to the shop, they will forward it into the factory for assessing. I'll name the shop and brand once I know more. Will take a few weeks.

What I will say is that it is an overseas brand, at the time they did not distribute to Australia thus I had to go overseas to the brand's preferred shop and order through them. Perhaps paying RRP and buying from country of origin may account for the good service thus far.

Hi all,

A small update on the frame. They have offered a replacement! Good news. However the old parts will be going on the new later model frame which has a different paint scheme, so all the colours will be all over the place. Not a major concern to me as i would rather perform and have an ugly bike than huffing and puffing on a sexy bike...

So my question is, should I accept their offer on a frame that is last year's model that has a mismatched paint job? From people's experience have you been able to specify (within reason) choice of frame? Are you able to pay the difference on a current model? I am looking at the current frame (2013) of the same model as the cracked one.

Cheers

SB

Yes. Rarely. Almost never unless it is available as a frameset only (and it'll usually be more than just 'the difference').
