I once misinterpreted the hub measurements for a wheelbuilding job (they were written in a different format to what I usually use) and got spokes about 10mm too long. I then had to cut & rethread all 32 spokes manually....
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
Had a near miss the other night. Went to remove the hubcap from my lefty hub so I could mount up on the adapter and retrue the front wheel in a makeshift stand. I'd tacoed it the previous weekend and had an idea to get it true again.
I modified a shimano octalink bb driver by taking off the bevel edge on the bench grinder to be sure it wouldn't slip and damage the shallow splines in the hubcap face. Fitted it in. Lots of pressure to prevent a slip. Turn carefully. Hmm. Not coming off. Better go check ze manual.
Very glad I did. Twas a left hand thread.

Was working on stripping frame in my Aldi work stand, moving it around to all angles to get the parts off. Looked down and saw that the plastic knob had fallen off the clamp. Searched amongst the junk on the floor for ages, couldn't work out where this palm sized chunk of bright blue plastic went. Figured that I'd have to be the vice grips out to get the frame off the stand. Had all but given up when I turned the frame back over and there it was, I'd been looking at the back of the clamp where there is no plastic knob.

Hint... buy another couple of spokes.

Built up my wonderful Specialized and rode it for weeks. Cables stretched a little and the FD needed an adjustment. After some stuffing around I finally had it placed right. Tested it one last time and bumped the cable, which I must have somehow loosened the cable end. The cable bumped the tyre and unwound to the bolt. No problems - it was still holding so all good.
1km out of the driveway and what lets go? The cable. FD to the small ring and I ride slowly home.
Had to take the car.
