Some more good progress last night.

TRP Parabox installed - hyfraulic lines run internally through the frame (rear hose) and fork (front hose), and reconnected. Bleeding still to be done, anlong with hooking up the brake cables.

BB30 SRAM Red crank installed too.

So far, things are going well, so waiting for the disaster ....

The internal cable hesitancy proved completely unfounded, as it all went like clockwork, even the rear caliper hose popped out of the frame downtube hole as easy as can be.

A true measure of some of the design and thought that went into this frame !!

Hopefully riding tonight, but the rain may mean more work can be done .....

Michael, good work, I know how long you waited for this. But umm isn't the point of this bike to be able to ride in the rain? Man up and get out there, it has to get dirty sometime.

I get the feeling the Michael will want the bike finished before he rides it in the rain. There's no mention of a chain or derailleurs being installed yet (or pedals)

Well, I struck the disaster the other night

Routed the cables incorrectly ... wrong shifter to each derailleur

Fix was relatively easy, so after a bit of head shaking, it was back as the way it was meant to be.

Chainrings installed, chain fitted, brakes all connected up, adaptor for rear disc installed.

Had a go at setting up the FD & RD and got 90% there. Still have to bleed the brakes. I'm waiting on the Torx tools that I ordered as the bleed screw is a silly small and odd size

Will hopefully get it going this weekend, and post a few more pics. But plenty of house stuff to do first ...

Well I'm interested in why SRAM made these huge ghastly shifters with integrated reservoirs when it seems you've just used off-the-shelf shifters with external reservoirs. Yours seems to be the more elegant solution.

SRAM still have all the mechanicals in their lever to get around, something hiamno doesn't, so theirs is better.

Some wont class the parabox as an elegant solution, but it's a practical one.

One question around the Parabox, could you not just swap the port that the hydraulic cable fits to , to eliminate the need for the crossover of the short 90 degree tubes ? Other than that it looks great.....now to find a pot of gold....

Not on my version, but you can do this on the later ones though.

Mine is a Gen 1 Parabox, and as such has different sized m/cyl and calipers. The later version had identical m/cyl and F & R calipers.

The FD cable exits just behind the seatpodt as normal, but has an internal noodle that runs between the bottom of the BB and frame

You should be able to get her down to about 6.2 once you've trimmed the steerer

Finally, the bike had it's maiden voyage on Sat afternoon with a mate.

The steerer tube got trimmed (thanks Crittski for the loan of the steerer tube cutter and the bleed adaptor ), and it was all set. Well, the RD alignment wasn't quite right, but it was good enough.

A couple of pics of the finished article.









After heading to my mates place (crikey, it's stiffer than I thought !!), he drolled over it and then we both decided that the steerer tube needed tightening up a tad more, and then the fund started ....

You know, sometimes, all you touch turns to the proverbial .....

Undo the first stem bolt, start to UNDO the second and SNAP The dam thing has broken ... What the ..

OK, it's a flat ride, we'll keep going.

3/4 the way back, the terrible pfft, pfft. pfft . Bugger. First one in 18 months.

Oh well, no damage done.

Tyre changed, go to pump it up with the Co2, and ...... NOTHING. The damn thing wont work. Luckily, accompanying mate supplies hand pump with some mirth .

Complete the ride, wondering how to get the snapped bolt out of the stem, especially on the long weekend. Was planning on getting a longer stem, but hadn't ordered it yet.

OK, get home OK. Look at extensive drill supply, but NONE small enough. PFBB. Plan B - buy a cheapie 110mm stem from forum or LBS and use in meantime.

Secured a 110mm stem for $45 (bit pricey, but c'est la vie). Fit it, but having trouble with the sill PRO brand top cap doovy. Just can't get it tight enough. In the end, decide to remove it and start again. Oh no, the damn head strips out.

Eventually get it out with the aid of the aforementioned extensive drill bit range and appropriately sized easy out. PRO item is dispatched to far corner of shed with some choice words ...

Look forlornly at the bike and think that ride tomorrow morning is out.

Look haphazardly at the test De Rosa hanging in the shed waiting to go back (trembling with fear). Ah ha !! If I look at the setup that the De Rosa uses, maybe I could buy the same. Then I have an even better idea. I just borrow it and within 2 min, the head set tension is set correctly. 30 + minutes of struggling with the PRO setup that I couldn't achieve.

Oh well, the world is right and ready for a hilly ride tomorrow.

Oh, and I got the bolt thread out of the ARX stem too.

No, to just get rid of this heat and humidity that we have seem to be blessed in Adelaide at the moment.
