So the bearing in my jockey wheels on the rear derailleur are cactus. It's a shimano 105 derailleur. Can I replace them with the ultegra "tension guide pulley kit" as the 105 version is out of stock?

thanks

According to the shimano techdocs, yes (I think).

I replaced the jockey wheels in my 5600 derrailleur some years ago with "BBB rollerboys". Easy-peasy, and a nice little upgrade (going from a bushing to a smooth running sealed bearing). Pretty cheap too!!

Token CNC. Hmmmmm..... bling!

Plus, it gets rid of Shimano's patented lateral-movement in the guide wheel, which to me makes the shift more consistent.

(Yes - all the jockey wheels are interchangeable in the "road" series.)

Do this, it works.
Once covered in road grime (~10km), nobody can see what you're rolling anyway.

I've replaced Tiagras with XTs so lots of Shimano jockey wheels are interchangeable. Going to XT or Ultegra level gives you an upgrade from plain bearings to sealed/ceramic bearings.

I find i get some weird noises when using CNC jockey wheels unless the chainline is pretty much straight. I think its just the chain sides rolling over the teeth slightly.

the doco posted above suggests the ultegra and 105 jockey wheels are exactly the same. for some reason wiggle charge twice as much for the ultegra ones

funny thing is the tech doc for the 5700 rd says the 105 jockey wheels are not compatible with the ultegra RD... :?

It is a bit hard to tell from the diagrams but the 6700 look like sealed/ceramic and are different to the ones shown in the 5700 diagram - the compatibility code says compatible but different

Hi Guys, the Ultegra only has sealed bearings on the upper wheel. The 105 i think does not have sealed bearings.

I went for the Dura Ace jockys as they are both sealed units. They also last longer and need little mainteance. You can ge them for arround $40 online.

Cheers.

I think you will find that Ultegra has a ceramic bush on the upper and a sealed bearing on the lower. Shimano upper wheel needs a bit of side play and you can't get that with a sealed bearing.

What are the issues without play?
Running sealed bearings on my 6600 and 6700 ultegra and 7800 dura ace derailleurs.

Warthog1 _ that is how Shimano make them. I always assumed that it helped the upper pulley line up with the cassette sprocket.

While I prefer not having the side play, hence using Token wheels.
