Revoshift + road?

Postby familyguy » Mon Apr 08, 2013 12:53 pm

I'm upgrading the wife from her relatively trusty Raleigh aluminium MTB ride to (what I hope is) something more suitable.

I have an Acera RD that I will probably use, so I can give her a bit more range on the back and keep the 28T she uses now and then. I'm thinking that because its a 'mountain' RD with 'mountain' shifters, that should be OK providing I match the freewheel to the shifter (7 speed probably).

Buuuut, would these work with a 6400EX short cage proper road RD though? If the ratios work out, and with a compact front, I think a 26T might be enough for her to work with, and I can use the short cage RD, hence the question.

The front/left shifters seem to be friction based, not indexed to the degree that the road brifters are, so the road double front crank and road FD should work without issue, as long as the limit screws are set up.

It'll work fine - friend of mine runs a Sora road rear derailleur with 7 speed mountain shifters and it's fine as long as you don't exceed the chain wrap capacity.

but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.

Sweet, thanks drubie. Now to source. Wife prefers twist shifters over anything else.

I dunno about 7 speed, but 9 speed road derailleurs have a different lever ratio to MTB derailleurs and won't work with MTB shifters.
