I have recently picked up this bike as a small project to restore to a reliable commuter. This was my Dads bike years ago, and even at that point it was second or third hand. Since then, it has seen a lot of weather and neglect. But, I think with some basic work and without spending too much money, it will be a nice little bike for getting me to and from work. Plus, in the process I ought to learn a little bit about how these machines actually work.
The first thing I decided to do was replace the tyres and tubes. I took the measurements from the tyres that were already on there down to LBS and got some new tyres and tubes. The back tyre was 700c x 23, replaced tube and tyre no problems. The front tyre was 27 1 1/8. The store only had a 27 1.25 tyre in stock (a gatorskin), so i took that home and changed the tyre and tube (is this where I went wrong?).
All was going fine until I realised that since the change, the front tyre now makes contact with the fork and underside of the brakes.

Some theories of mine that I cannot verify or rule out on my own:
(a) The front wheel being 27" is actually too big for this frame, as all of these are 26". (Couldn't find info on the Katana).
(b) Using a 27 x 1.25 is not a suitable substitute for a 27 1 1/8? (This article helped me understand how much I don't know!)
(c) Perhaps the 27 1.25 Gatorskin has a larger profile than the 27 1 1/8 that i removed?
(d) Something else that is glaringly obvious to everybody but me!
Sorry if this comes across as a stupid question. I have tried to research this without any luck, hopefully someone out there has experienced something similar. Thanks!
If a larger profile wheel and tyre is put onto a frame which was made for a smaller wheelset, then youll have issues. Should get a 700c front wheel, as I dont think these Shoguns came with 27".
