Wheelset compatibility

Postby asianexpat » Wed May 28, 2008 9:20 pm

hi guys. Just looking at changing a wheel set but i've got some questions about the compatibility of drop outs and the rear hub measurements.

My current road bike (old repco) has 6 sprockets on the rear wheel so I would assume its 6 speed. Looking at buying a wheelset with 7 speed hub and 7 speed cassette. the rear hub of the wheelset measures 130mm. Is that going to be compatible with the configuration of my current road bike? I think my current road bike rear drop out is 126mm.

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

I think you'll find this a very enlightening article...

I've narrowed, rather than widened, my old steel Ricardo from 126mm to 120 (or so) to suit a Surly fixed gear hub
