With a top of the line groupset, during your weekly clean and maintenance routine
It all depends on how good your cables are, the weather conditions during the rides and how the bike is stored. All of my bikes get a tweak only when necessary and generally 1000kms. The race bike gets the royal treatment and only needs adjustment a week or two after new cable changes. This is generally between 3000-5000kms or 12 months.

Be aware SRAM bashing is a sport online. Weather or not it is justified or not I don't know, but I've had no problems with my SRAM Force, and change cables about every 6 - 12 months, and generally don't retune I between changes.

My SRAM Apex only needs adjusting when I either change the cables or the cassette, and even then it is only a minor adjustment.

Completely the opposite of my experience. Shimano I find to go out of adjustment frequently. I hardly ever have to readjust on Red.
Haha, thanks for that very unhelpful contribution Duck, I should have said my Sram Red has gone 4,500 kms without needing adjustment....it does need a tune now though.

After setting them up and making initial minor adjustments during / after a ride, I haven't had to adjust my gears on either bike for a long time (1000 & 3000Km, respectively). Shimano DA7800 & Ultegra6700 used and I don't have any of those barrel adjusters fitted to my cables - just straight out of the levers to the respective derailleurs.
OK, so I was exaggerating slightly, but I've found SRAM to be more finnicky than the other two.
They'll all need a bit of a tweaking for a short while after fitting new cables as they stretch & settle in, but after that they're good for a long time. The most stable of the lot are Shimano with the "clothesline" gear cables - set & forget for 10,000+km (but check the cables periodically, 'cos they do fray inside the shifters!). With fewer curves in the cabling, the friction is inherently lower to begin with, so they're more tolerant of environmental contaminants that get into the cables and increase friction.
All the hidden-cabled shifters take more settling in, but it takes longer to get SRAM fully dialled in.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
I ride a flat bar but on my old bike the Sora needed adjusting I think once in 21,000KMs. On the current bike I have 105 and haven't used anything except the barrel adjusters as the new cable stretched a bit. Don't need to use the adjustment screws on the derralieur itself, even when I change a cassette.
