Bottom Bracket Replacement

G'day

There is a chance my BB is up for replacement on the CRX 1. From Giant's webpage, I have a FSA MegaExo BB and a FSA Gossamer 10 speed MegaExo crank/BB 34x50T crank.

As I understand it from the Park Tools Big Blue book I don't need anything special in the way of tools to remove/install the crank which is good.

I assume that BB is a cartridge type and this appears to be correct going by the FSA website. I am pretty sure my BB is a FSA BB-6000.

So my questions are:

(1) Would it be an English thread or how can I tell?
(2) Would the Shimano 105 BB be a suitable replacement or if PBK get them in stock the Ultegra BB;
(3) Would this be the correct toolfor the BB removal?

1. English. I can't imagine Giant doing Italian threaded BB's. EDIT: If both cups rotate in one direction, it's English. One direction means the top of the BB rotating towards the FRONT or BACK of the bike, not one of each. (clear?)
2. Should be (disclaimer: I've never used mixed external BB/crank combos i.e Shimano BB, FSA crank)
3. Yes, should be.

Thanks. The eBay one is more expensive than the PBK one landed and given I am doing an order on PBK I will probably get theirs. I had considered the BBT 9 and would prefer that but I don't PBK have one in stock.

HI Andrew

1) English one cup has right thread and the other has left thread. I'm 99% sure it would be Brittish. I would suggest for the price, put an Ultegra one on the bike. I had my replacement turn up from PBK this morning so I have a spare one. I ordered a Brittish and they sent me an italian and I almost busted the BB housing as I was turning the cup the wrong way ie: Italian is both right handed thread, I was following the thread to get the old one off

Just an update. I stripped out the FSA BB yesterday (serious amounts of play there) and replaced it with a Shimano Ultegra Bottom Bracket 6600/6603. A tight fit but then it was a tight fit getting it off. All seems to have gone okay. Pretty pleased with myself as this is my first a bit of "serious" mechanical work

I also used a Park Tools BBT-19 which worked okay.

I got 6400 km out of the original FSA BB so hope this Ultegra one does better.
