Postby dajackal » Wed Oct 23, 2013 6:13 pm

hi bna,

my chain is starting to rub on my front derailleur when i'm on the higher gears. i hope this can be fixed by a simple adjustment so i dont need to go back to the bike shop.

any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

i'm running a tiagra groupset if that helps :)

Trim your front derailleur. When you push the left shifter, you'll feel a click before you shift to the big ring. That's your trim shift. If it's tuned properly there should be enough cable tension to move the derailleur off the chain when you make that trim shift. Likewise, there's also a trim shift when on the big ring for when you're cross-chaining to the big sprockets (a combination that should be avoided more than small-small cross-chaining); press the release lever gently so you just get the first click and it'll drop the derailleur in slightly but not so far as to downshift to the small ring.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

Lots of material on the inter web about tuning derailleurs. Its easy to do once you see a YouTube demo.
