Ran out of Continental Tubular rim glue for carbon rims and only had some Continental glue for aluminium rims left so rang the LBS. Yes he said, got plenty. When I got there he offered me some Continental glue for aluminium rims saying it was exactly the same formula as the carbon glue. Said shortly all Continental tubular glue will be the same for carbon and aluminium and labelled as such. Anybody know anything about this?

I haven't been able to detect any difference between the two.

I remember someone claiming (on Weight Weenies?) that the carbon glue was more resistant to high temperatures than the regular glue.

There are also many reports online from people using each on the other rim type and saying that it is 'fine' and I'll even add a point of anecdata to that having used regular Continental glue on plastic wheels with no ill effects.

However, the fact is that most people don't actually test the limits of adhesion (of a good glue job) in use anyway so it is unlikely to be a problem.

I'm a Mastik 1 convert myself, because I reckon you get a bit more fiddling time when you mount the tyre so you can get it straight more easily. They definitely only have one formula.

I've never used the carbon specific glue. Some say it has a higher melting temp. Could be the same stuff in a different coloured tin for all I know but I wouldn't be worried about it either way.

Not worried about it, just wondered why Continental used the same glue in different tubes and labelled for a specific purpose.

they are exactly the same

conti charge a little bit more for the black tubes because people will pay for it
