Anyone serviced a Look pedal?

Washing my bike today I noticed my pedals seem like the bearings need some grease. They're Look Classics (not the newer Keo) and they seem like they could come apart (there seems to be a lock-ring around the axle). Has anyone pulled one of these apart and serviced them? If so what tools am I looking for for the lock ring?

They require a special Look tool, similar to a bottom bracket tool.

Depending on how pristine you want them to stay, you can get them undone with a pair of vice grips.

Some of the Look models have sealed bearings and some have shims. The 406's on the shelf here dont have a bearing at all, just a spindle and a plastic sleeve that it runs on.
