Brake Lever Reach - Shims and Spacers

Postby h3ndry » Sun Jul 20, 2008 8:53 pm

because I have pretty small hands, I find it difficult to reach the STI levers on my road bike, especially when I am on the drops. I've read that spacers and shims can help to bring the lever within closer reach of the bars, after tweaking the brake cables of course.

Does anyone know where I can get some shimano spacers or shims that would fit Tiagra levers?

Also, I'm on the hunt for some top mount cyclocross style brake levers - for ease of commuting.

Cheers

I read that Tiagra STIs have reach adjustment (unlike 105 and up).....

Here 'tis - Shimano Tiagra page. It's the 3rd PDF down the list. Shimano have accessory spacing pads available so they say.

Specialized makes SLIM SHIMS that fit to the top part of the shifter and push the lever towards the bar. Google it

I've heard of the Slim Shims, but unfortunately specialised do not ship directly to Australia. Anyone know a distributor?

Avantiplus stores sell Specialized as one brand in their range. Maybe they could order them in for you (assuming they can buy them in).

I've got Tiagra levers and mine came with the rubber shims that fit the levers. Maybe ask the bike shop that you sold you the bike. Maybe they have a pile of them that they haven't been giving to customers :)

hey h3ndry, did you ever find somewhere to get the Tiagra shims? I'm desperately searching for some for my missus' bike.
