I have a BB86 frame, looking at buying a Quark Riken with "GXP BB".
the cranks don't appear to come with a BB, so I guess the seller means they're GXP-BB compatible.
from what I can glean from the internets, I think they're also BB86 compatible. can anyone confirm?
most of the online compatibility guides are hard to follow and digress onto why BB86 offers better frame design option - I don't care about that, I want to know if I can fit the damn cranks at all!!

BB86 is bog-standard press-fit. You need a GXP Press-fit bottom bracket.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

so it won't fit?
this guy suggests it should?
this guy suggests it should?
or do I need an adaptor? there must be a useful online guide somewhere that isn't written as if you already understand all of the compatibility issues, thus not needing to be reading it in the first placeJason Miles of FSA. "We currently make bottom brackets and adaptors for BSA, BB30, and PF30 frames and are working on BB86 bottom brackets. Frames with BB386 EVO shells should be able to run almost any crank.

thanks - sorry I read that as meaning I needed a GXP BB frame, instead of the BB386 one I have.
I get you now!

Hang on, is it a BB86 which you originally said or BB386 frame? Although both are 86mm wide, the bores are different, 41mm for BB86 vs 46mm for BB386, the latter being able to also fit 30mm spindles. If it's 386 you will need an adaptor to compensate for the different bore diameter.

it's BB86. I picked up BB386 from that quote in my earlier post, which was not associated with my bike. I would have assumed they were the same (can't they make these things clearer?) but there you go - much appreciated Duck.

Ah cool, BB86 makes it easy and my first replies still stand. If your current crank is SRAM then you don't need to do anything in the bottom bracket department, just swap the cranks. If your current crank is anything else you'll need to swap the bottom bracket with the aforementioned GXP Press-Fit.
