Dura Ace shifter repairs

Postby tomee » Wed Aug 30, 2017 9:09 am

i've got a DA shifter which has had the inner trigger bent after a light bingle

Does anyone know if these can be removed and changed? I was thinking of bending it back but as you can see in the photo below it has a stress fracture.
I have a spare ultegra shifter which i could use parts from

Looks like a 9000 from the placement of the DA logo, IIRC the 9001 series have the logo placed below the groove?

Unfortunately that part of the shifter mechanism is not replaceable, as it's built into the hood assembly.

Shimano & spare parts always gives me a laugh. Sometimes I swear it's a conspiracy - firstly the part isn't made. If it is, no-one in the LBS can tell you if it's available in AU, or what the lead time is - because Shimano AU doesn't know. And then it arrives and no-one is sure if it is the correct one, as there are 5 different versions which you tell apart by where the sticker is!

An engineer friend once told me that I shouldn't be afraid to attempt to fix something because "it's already broken".

If you have a spare ultegra shifter of the same era try and see what parts are compatible between the two. I've done this with earlier series shifters - however I suspect the other posters are correct.

At the very least you may be able to swap the DA shifter blades/brake lever into the ultegra body?
