I'm trying to find a replacement seal kit for my Juicy 7s.
Why, I hear all of you ask? Because I already own them, which makes them cheaper than anything else.
They're going on a Big W 29er, which I obtained for free and has been highly modified with shed bits, so all up it owes me less than $100.
I really want the feel of hydros, especially seeing the thing weighs approximately 1 sh*(AT)-tonne......
Any suggestions?

Google for the avid repair manuals and thy list the individual seal part numbers as well as the kits, and then google those numbers. Plenty of suppliers out there

Ta muchly Gents.
Duck, what's the key difference between '05-'07 and '08-'09 models? I bought them too long ago to remember what year it was. Surely there's a clue on them somewhere?

if you dissemble it and measure the size of the seals, you can probably buy them off Ebay much cheaper than through Avid.

Thanks Jules, turns out the rubbers are fine, after 15 years the plastic piston had swollen inside the lever.jules21 wrote:if you dissemble it and measure the size of the seals, you can probably buy them off Ebay much cheaper than through Avid.
To fix it I clamped my power drill in a vice, clamped the piston in the chuck just like a lathe and filed it down bit by bit until it moved freely inside the lever.

very clever George. are you using the correct brake fluid? maybe the plastic just swelled over the extended period of time?
I have some Juicy 5s that I've had one for about 8 years now. no problems yet!

Yup Yup. Definitely the correct fluid. While they are 15 years old, they actually haven't seen active duty for around 10 years, and spent the best part of the last 12 months without any fluid in them at all. It's an absolute miracle they don't leak, let alone work!!!

Sorry, somehow missed this one.... I haven't studied them closely enough to pick the differences, so can't be of any help on this bit sorry. All I know is that after the Elixir series was introduced starting in '08 for '09 model year the Juicies were progressively phased out, starting with the higher-spec models.Cardy George wrote:Ta muchly Gents.
