chainring compatibility

Postby hamishm » Thu Oct 19, 2017 5:21 pm

I'm looking for the cheapest way to replace the worn chainrings on my 6700. Can I put 5700 chainrings on my 6700 crankset? (Yes they'll be the same size, 50 and 34) I'll replace both.

Yes. But the colour won't match.
Quite often it is cheaper to replace the entire crankset.

5700 rings aren't that expensive because they're not hollow. They'll fit but won't look pretty because the spider shaping is different.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

It's only for the trainer so I don't really care. $60 for the pair for 5700 rings, versus about $150 for a new 5800 crankset. The 6700 rings would be about $90 for the pair if they were available.

4700 would work too right? Only $98 for a whole crankset.

Any of Shimano's 2-piece cranks will work, because they all share the same critical bottom bracket dimensions for spindle diameter and assembled width.
