bending a pedal wrench

Hello All, I'd like to bend it to give it an angle, but it seems I don't have the strength ... any ideas how to bend it? I tried pliers, a hammer and heating on the bbq

any ideas?

It is an old x-tools pedal wrench which got rounded. I thought I'd repurpose it as a disk brake spreader tool (since I have been having so many issues with them) I got the angle grinder out and cut the head off and gave it a sharper tip (and rounded it) then thought I'd give it a bit of a bend similar to the real tool so that I could get it in on an angle easier.

Tool-grade steel is typically hardened, which has the effect of removing almost all of its ability to be bent. Significant attempts at reshaping will likely lead to breakage of the spanner.

You could heat it to remove the temper and hardening, but you'd need a blowtorch or gas stove. And then you'd need to re-harden it by re-heating and quenching. If considering this approach you'd need to do your research as it is temperature sensitive/

How hot did you manage to get it?

At a dull red you should be able to get it to bend, but it will still take a fair bit of hammering. If you can get it to cherry-salmon colour it would be better, and at bright orange heat it would bend quite easily.

Depending on how strong you need it to be, then you may need to re-quench it and then temper it after bending, especially if you get it above dull red.

it seems I gave it a half hearted attempt at heating it, it didn't change colour, just got hot :p
