Hi, I'm new to this forum so hopefully this is the right place to post this, though doubtless someone will tell me if its not.
I'm looking for somewhere that resprays bike frames in Sydney and that doesn't cost the same as a four bedroom house in Vaucluse. Has anyone got any suggestions?
The frame I want to respray is a vintage Peugeot Performance.
Much appreciate any help you may be able to offer.

Hey, I thought you died at the top of Mount Ventoux?
If you're trying to do it *cheap* you could try doing it yourself or getting it powdercoated. Dedicated bike painters are usually dealing with high end stuff, so charge consistent with the level of quality sought.
But you ride for Peugeot, can't they just give you a new bike?

Ok, so not in Sydney, but http://paintmybike.com.au/Tom Simpson wrote:Hi, I'm new to this forum so hopefully this is the right place to post this, though doubtless someone will tell me if its not.

For Sydney, I had a frame redone by Peter Fleming at Star Enamellers in Bankstown. I don't know if he still does it, as it was a while ago, but he's one one of the best the business.
He stripped and resprayed my steel Hillbrick, including some Brass infill on a dent, plus some rust removal and chrome masking. All that cost $270 back in 2010. The frame came back with a factory finish. My only gripe was it was a 3 or 4 month wait, such was the demand for his services.

Thanks for the info Queequeg. I have heard mention of Star enamellers but I don't think they have a website, but I'll given them a call and see what happens. Sounds as if they do a good job for an excellent price, though probably hiked up a bit since 2010.
And P!n20, I didn't die at the top of Mont Ventoux.....I collapsed and died on the ascent....never made it to the top.....!
Thanks for the help people.

Peter is old school. He was recommended to me by Peter Bundy (frame builder), Jim Bundy’s son. I was told he used to do all the paint jobs for Paul Hillbrick’s frame. In fact, i found out that when i took my Hillbrick to him for a respray, it was actually one of the ones he did.Tom Simpson wrote:Thanks for the info Queequeg. He did a superb job, and even put new decals on for me (which he still had in stock).
I kind of have him free reign on the colour, only specifying I wanted it in a Merlot colour, with some gold flecks in it. He ended up mixing in some gold pearl into the clear coat. It came up looking better than new. I was given the frame for free due it’s condition, so $270 was a bargain. I still have that bike as it was first road bike, and it just has that sentimental value.
I can dig up the before and after shots if you want to see the magic he worked.

My uncle was a very good friend of Tom Simpson. Raced with him. They lived almost next door to each other in Gent. Im friends with Toms daughter Joanne. I had one of Toms Peugeot jerseys ... i foolishly / generously gave it to a collector friend in Belgium.

He was my cycling hero back in the day....even had the honour of racing (kind of) with him at Crystal Palace in a special criterium stage of the Milk race...If memory serves me I think Barry Hoban won the actual stage.
To actually have one of his Peugeot jerseys would have been special.....just hope whoever you gave it to, foolishly or not, appreciated it.
Oh the memories.....!

Thanks for the photos, great stuff.
Well worth the effort by the looks of it, looks superb even after a few years. Hope to get my old frame looking this good in the not too distant future.
