Hi all, long time since I posted here but I need some advice.
My front derailer was no shifting correctly so I thought I would replace the cable, inner and outer.
Now as soon as I change gears and go to change back the end of the cable comes out of where it lives in the shifter, I am actually now wondering if this was the issue all along.
This is where the cable should sit
This is where it ends up.
New cable inner and outer. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

it relies on the spring tension of the derailleur to pull the cable taut and keep the stop seated.
If it pops out when you've got proper adjustment on the other (derailleur) end - then something is binding between the two.

The cable doesn't seem to have tension. Multiple factors could cause this:
-faulty derailleur (spring tension, smooth action)
-faulty cable routing (tight bends, pinches etc)
-anything else that could cause friction.

Try moving the derailleur by hand, ignoring the shifter & cable. You'll soon feel if there's a stuck pivot or disconnected spring.
What derailleur is it?
What derailleur is it?
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
