XT 6 bolt question about bolts

Postby uad782 » Fri Feb 23, 2018 6:21 pm

Hi,

I just received two nice Shimano Xt rt 86 ice tech discs. The instructions refer to a tightening plate which is meant to be bent over the bolts. I gather this is shimano acting like my nanny. I want to be able to take the discs off periodically to take travelling and I guess this system would make that difficult.

So I will probably use a locktite 242.

Any comments appreciated.

Also when I get bolts that have a bit of blue on them is that blue some form of threadlocker?

Thanks

The spring plate doesn't make the bolts any harder to remove when you want to, it just stops them undoing themselves. The bolts are also typically supplied already covered with threadlocker.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I am picturing Shimano trying to ‘own’ their customers by making them do stupid things... and a bunch of Shimano execs laughing their arses off.

Thank goodness we can tap into Ducks wisdom.

No, it's more about Shimano et al covering their arses against litigation from people who would blame the manufacturer for their own lack of maintenance.
